Solar energy creation in its main role offers the best chance for the world to steer away from hydrocarbons and fossil fuels. It will involve all sectors of society changing their existing attitude to all forms of life as they know it now and to take onboard new concepts in community and transport design.

We have been aware of its potential for decades but existing fuels were cheaper and easier to use with controllability for taxation.

The sun has the potential to supply us with enough power to satisfy our insatiable demands for modern requirements. Roads and pathways as a heat source and store for hot water will be the norm in a few decades.

Roofs and walls as a generating source for all the domestic needs, its all possible and easily available. Only the inducements from government to make the changes are lacking.

They of course will want to establish a tax on the free power to offset...

Roofs and walls as a generating source for all the domestic needs, its all possible and easily available. Only the inducements from government to make the changes are lacking.

They of course will want to establish a tax on the free power to offset the losses from the normal revenue associated with existing fuels.

Countries with more sun will have significant advantages over more northerly locations.

Solar power for desalination will offer dry areas an opportunity to redevelope and attract new inhabitants. Already climatic students foresee enormous changes in the world’s demographics with large population movements.

The phenomenal growth of the more liberal Middle Eastern states shows what can be achieved off the back of the oil and gas profits.

Could this happen when the main power supply is free? How would the money be made to invest in new infrastructure if all had unlimited access to an untaxed energy?

Before we rush off into this utopia of free power we must assess the real pro and cons of this life changing conversion.

What would happen to states that depend on their natural wealth as a sole source of income? Countries that do not have the ability to adapt quickly would be in turmoil and governments would not be able to maintain a semblance of authority due to their lack of revenues.

The whole business world would change drastically with manufacturing having to spend vast sums on new infrastructure.

How would it be controlled, would clandestine solar farms spring up like poppy fields in Afghanistan?

What alternative wealth creation would replace the existing earnings from existing natural and hydrocarbon energy?

The engineering world would be one of the main beneficiaries as all existing generation and transport would require modifications.

It wouldn’t happen overnight but as we all know once a commitment is made why continue to invest in existing methods when a new concept is clear to see in the not too distant future.

Why in countries such as China and India are they not pursuing this technology more actively instead of building convoys of coal fired power stations?

Is it shorttermism or is there a more sinister background?

Would the environment really benefit if increased strife was a result of major changes in the worlds order? We only have to look at North Korea and desperate people to see what potential confrontations can take place when leader’s backs are to the walls.

So many dictators and their henchmen are propped up by unbelievable wealth from robbing their countries natural resources.

If that source was threatened would they quietly accept it on the basis of it being good for the world?

It only requires one major event such as a multi million ton glacier sliding into the sea from Greenland or the Antarctic for the Environmental groups to have a controlling role over governments. Their insistence that all efforts are made to change the energy production with most populations in full agreement.

The oil majors will want to be seen to be part of the changes but they know they will be cutting their own throat, as the bulk of their profits come from the main course of the problem in the first place.

Catch 22 or Life and Death for millions. The poverty stricken unfortunates will be the first to suffer and we the lucky ones will look on as whole groups of people will be sucked into this maelstrom of change.

The religious fanatics will see it as an ideal opportunity to blame the western world as the sole cause of the predicament and poor gullible people will fall behind whoever they see as a possible salvation.

This in turn will increase the tensions with an escalation towards further military action and the environmental damage which inevitably follows.
